Why owllet

Most budgeting apps ask you to hand over your bank logins, create an account, and trust a company with the most sensitive data you have. owllet takes the opposite approach — your data stays private to you, and the app bends to your taste, not the other way around.

No company database. No tracking. Your data stays yours.

This is the one thing that never changes. owllet runs no company financial-data server, keeps no database of your finances, and has no in-app analytics. Your data starts on your device. If you choose iCloud, owned sync and backups use your private database; an explicitly shared workspace uses Apple's shared CloudKit database. Nobody at owllet can see your numbers, while people you invite can access only the workspace you share with them.

Your data stays yours

There is no owllet financial database behind the app. Every record starts on your device. You decide whether owned workspaces sync through private iCloud, whether to create private iCloud backups, and whether to invite another iCloud user to one workspace through Apple sharing.

Zero tracking, zero analytics

No trackers, no SDKs, no usage analytics, no advertising identifiers. owllet doesn't measure what you tap, doesn't profile your spending, and has no third-party code phoning home in the background. What you do in the app is nobody's business but yours.

No account, ever

No email, no password, no sign-up, no bank-login linking. You download the app and start the same second. There's no onboarding funnel, no verification, and no identity for anyone to breach — because there isn't one.

No subscription, no ads

owllet isn't built to monetize your attention or your data. There's no monthly fee gating the features you need, no upsell wall, and no advertising. The app you install is the whole app.

Works fully offline

Because owllet doesn't depend on a company server, it needs no internet connection to do its everyday work. Add transactions on a plane, check your balance underground, review your budget with no signal — it all just works, instantly, and iCloud sync (if enabled) catches up later on its own.

Your data, fully portable

Private doesn't mean locked in. Export your entire history to a spreadsheet in one tap and import it back whenever you like. There's no proprietary format holding your money story hostage — it's yours to take anywhere.

Separate workspaces

One app can hold multiple independent ledgers. Keep personal spending, household money, trips or projects apart, each with its own data and iCloud choice. Share only the workspace you choose with another iCloud user; the rest stay separate.

Simple or powerful

Easy mode keeps a workspace focused and lightweight. Power mode unlocks the full planning, statistics, budget, calendar and recurring workflow. You choose per workspace instead of forcing every budget into the same complexity.

Privacy is only half the story. owllet is also one of the most customizable budgeting apps you'll find — workspaces, Easy and Power modes, the look, the colors, and even the navigation bar reshape around how you think about your money, not how a designer decided everyone should.

Customize the entire look

owllet doesn't lock you into one theme. You control two separate layers of color, so the app can look calm and minimal or bold and personal — whatever feels right to you.

  • Main colors — set the page background, card backgrounds, primary and secondary text, and both menus to reshape the whole mood of the app.
  • 18 accent colors — a full palette used for account and category icons, all individually editable.
  • Pick any shade with a visual color picker or by typing an exact hex code — light and dark mode are both fully supported.

Rebuild the bottom menu

The bottom navigation bar isn't fixed the way it is in almost every other app. The four left slots are yours to assign — put the screens you actually use within thumb's reach and ignore the rest.

  • Assign any screen to any slot: Dashboard, Transactions, Search, Accounts, Statistics, Budget, Calendar, or the Add shortcut.
  • Assigning a screen that's already placed swaps the two automatically — no duplicates, no fiddling.
  • Show or hide the floating Add button independently, and reorder the whole Dashboard from seven movable blocks.

And it's a genuine pleasure to use.

Every corner of owllet is built around motion. The animations are fast, minimal, and genuinely beautiful — never in your way, always a delight to watch. The whole app feels alive and effortless, and that's the point: when logging an expense looks and feels this good, you actually want to record every single one. Staying on top of your money stops being a chore and turns into something you enjoy.
